Andrew Wiggins First Commercial

What a crazy couple months it’s been for Andrew Wiggins. The Toronto native was the first overall pick in this June’s NBA Draft, going to the Cleveland Cavaliers. But a few weeks later, LeBron James announced his shocking return home on the same day Wiggins began his pro career in the Summer League. Immediately he was plagued by trade rumors and 30 days after he signed his first pro contract, he was shipped to Minnesota in the trade for Kevin Love. Most of you know all this already, but it’s a set-up for how great this article is in hindsight.

Many have felt sorry for Wiggins, but he’ll be just fine. The #1 overall pick will have every chance to excel and become the face of the franchise in Minnesota with a lot less pressure had he stayed in Cleveland. That, and he’s already got a pretty cool first commercial. Representing his home country’s Biosteel, Wiggins goes back to his old elementary school to, well, school today’s youngsters. He wasn’t messin’ around…

The spot is centered around “Staying True To Your Roots” as Wiggins narrates the last twenty seconds or so with some inspiring words. Prefacing that are some slick rhymes from an emcee who’s new to me: Tre Mission. Solid spot overall, but my one critique… #DrinkThePink though? *side eye*
