Drake & Pharrell to sign to Apple Music’s streaming service

Music industry news that broke sometime yesterday as Drake and Pharrell have signed onto Apple Music for their upcoming, revamped streaming service set to be announced next week at the Apple Conference. On top of that, Drake and Pharrell will be amongst the DJs for the new iTunes Radio features so get ready for more artist-curated playlists.

The interesting tidbit that was also revealed, at least previously unbeknownst to me, was that Drake was initially in on TIDAL but pulled out a couple days before the launch. The report in the New York Post also said that Drake would be paid $19 million for the deal. But Billboard‘s sources are quoted as saying, “Apple doesn’t normally pay artists for those types of collaborations.”
