Thalia Hall had a huge mission as over 200 people lined up outside for “The Most Wicked Party”. Curated by Redd’s Wicked Apple and AFROPUNK, every designer, writer, music head, and foodie (yeah, they turn up too) backed up the streets of Pilsen to get in on the action. With nothing more than a simple RSVP it was a mad house as people scrambled the doors at 8 pm. Myself included cause you know, Chicago people run on that late late time.

Starting off the pre show was Hebru Brantley and Max Sansing whose live paintings set an unusually calm contrast to that of the hyped DJ’s. Cause let’s face it, how many times in one’s life can one shake their butt cheeks to OG Maco’s “U Guessed It” and still have art literally being created before their eyes? Yeah, zero. Nevertheless, the twerk and paint brush ambiance was definitely the vibe as the show geared up to introduce Chicago’s very own, Holt.
No stranger to the city, Holt and his guitarists pushed out some fire tunes as the crowd slowly got tipsy off the Mango and Apple beers. With his ode to history making artists (The Clash, Misfits, Sex Pistols, etc), Holt jams out with the crowd as he sings and entertains us with brief sentiments about love, crazy hoes, and living up to one’s dream. Cause let’s face it, isn’t that the daily struggle for anyone our age? The cars, clothes, hoes…I suppose *insert deep thinking Drake gif*

Another Chicago native was comedian Hannibal Buress who took the stage after Holt. A tough act to follow, Buress got his joke bars up as he talked about morning wood, rappers, and his anti-selfie rules with police officers. What should have been a 40 minute set, Buress left the stage after 15 mins. WHAT? But we wanted more dick jokes! All well. An odd line up as it was, I felt Buress should have hosted the event instead of headlined. Nevertheless, the show went on as the crowd backed their asses up in anticipation of Danny Brown.

What I believe is Danny Brown‘s second time at Thalia Hall, if memory serves me right his last appearance left him with a pretty ugly stage dive (I think he got elbowed in the face? Correct me if I’m wrong). This time Danny Brown played it safe as he closed out the show. Rocking a typical black attire and flexing his new grills (diamonds from my angle), Danny didn’t disappoint as he pumped out personal favorites like “25 Bucks” and “Dip”. Also to Danny Brown’s DJ Raymond Noodles, shout out to you for dropping your whole ass laptop. You still got everyone going, it ain’t even an issue.

Thanks again AFROPUNK and Redd’s Wicked, Thursday was the turn up for Chicago!
