The Making of “Soul Survivor”

Like how it was for many, “Soul Survivor” was my first introduction to Young Jeezy and it quickly became a now sentimental favorite of my HS crew and I. I was up on Akon since his debut album so I was finding any song he was featured on at the time. One of the many hooks he killed was “Soul Survivor” but I was also intrigued by Jeezy’s gritty style and delivery.

With Jeezy dropping “God” yesterday and a new album on the way, Complex produced their latest Magnum Opus mini-doc around the making of “Soul Survivor”. Sit-downs with Jeezy, DJ Drama, and more above.

T-Pain ‘The Iron Way’ (Mixtape)

Anyone up for a new T-Pain mixtape? The Iron Way, presented by DJ Drama and Gangsta Grillz features 21 tracks and a bevy of notable features from Lil Wayne and Migos to Big K.R.I.T., Bun B, and The-Dream. More artists you’ll probably enjoy below on the tracklist and the actual music/download. Unfortunately, the Aaliyah collab (surely using unreleased vocals) that was promised only made it as far as the tracklist and not the actual audio. :-/

Childish Gambino ‘S T N M T N’

UPDATE: Kauai is now available here.

Childish Gambino releases the ‘S T N  M T N’ side to his mysterious new project, stn mtn/kauai, today and it’s 11 new tracks for download hosted by DJ Drama.

It’s a Gangsta Grillz mixtape that goes into an EP. The Gangsta Grillz mixtape is a dream, and the dream ends when I wake up in Kauai. And they go into each other; it’s one complete project. You can download the mixtape and you can go buy the EP. The money from the EP goes to help keeping Kauai clean.

Log on to his highly entertaining blog and scroll all the way to the bottom to download — blog.thedeepwebtour.com. Here is the stream.

As this screencap suggests, the kauai side is still to come on iTunes (possibly later today? Keep your eyes peeled.) Whatever the case, it’s a cool release strategy and I’m lookin’ forward to digesting these 11 tracks today. I’m already seeing remixes/freestyles/covers of “Move That Dope,” “Money Baby,” “Southern Hospitality”, “Go DJ” (my favorite so far), and a lil rendition of Usher’s 8701 jam “U Don’t Have To Call”. Love that song in general. Scroll below for the tracklist.
