DJ Khaled f/ Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, & Big Sean “How Many Times”

By now, it’s pretty much a given how formulaic a new DJ Khaled single is, and today, so is the video. The self-aware DJ Khaled presents another ridiculous 30 second skit that I can easily see Aziz Ansari’s Tom Haverford character loving and then the video proceeds to showcase the ladies while the other 3 artists do their thing with Khaled minimally shouting again on the hook. Even the hook (by Brown) and verses (by Wayne, Sean, and Brown) are formulaic also — nothing new really from any of em except a little bit of a lazy flow from Sean and a combination of Future and Migos from Breezy. *shrugs* Not my style but it’ll be summer’s style for sure.

DJ Khaled f/ Usher, Rick Ross, Fabolous & Ace Hood “Hold You Down (Remix)”

Khaled, Khaled, Khaled today as he enlists another jam-packed guest list — this time for the “Hold You Down (Remix)”. Below that, he releases a lengthy vlog that the internet is cracking up about, celebrating that the original has reached #1 on the urban charts. I didn’t really watch it because I got a sampling of it in this Instagram video today. You can’t unsee it, so take caution. In fact, don’t see it.

Various Artists “Don’t Shoot”

A la Game’s Michael Jackson tribute track (Remember that one?! Loved that one.), he recruits an incredibly big lineup of big names for a tribute to the fallen Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. It naturally took a lot of time for all these artists listed above in the cover art to do their thing and yet, the song still impacts at a time when a message this big and delivered by this many big artists can really speak to the people. Can’t knock that sentiment right?

It’s hard to pick my favorite raps from this one, but I will say that TGT’s singing contribution is the perfect break between each series of verses. Keep your ears peeled.
