The Chicago duo provide a (naturally) fresh Chicago visual for their first output of Marathon called “No Way” featuring singer Erthe St. James for the smooth hook. J. Arthur and DotKom perform with an old school mic and mic stand at a couple grind spots in the city and put forth some motivating lines about going full force and not giving up. The visuals continue to show a fresh light of Chicago, especially underneath the Studio Gang designed gem of a prefab wood pavilion in Lincoln Park Zoo. It’s a must-see if you haven’t been there and this is a nice look and listen from theWHOevers.
Look for the album to be dispersed one-by-one in the coming weeks and months.
theWHOevers keep evolving with each full-length release and that should keep going in 2015 as they’re actually prepping a double release titled Black & White & Born to Use Mics. It’ll explore the singing of J. Arthur like in the smooth summer jam “What’s It Gonna Be” and follow a format akin to OutKast’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.
This one though: “Gangrene”… this one’s on the rap side.
Both J & DotKom kill a fresh, thumpin’ production that eventually samples G.O.O.D. Music’s “Mercy” with some high-pitched, pulsating keys. J. kills the switch-up in the beat with DotKom setting a solid tone just before. It didn’t take long for me to like this one…
Probably the coolest video I’ve seen all week as theWHOevers drop these fresh visuals for “Need Somebody”. DotKom & J. Arthur ride through beautiful downtown as director Stefan Klapko captures the in-car visuals nicely throughout. I especially like how they speed up when the beat does prior to the hook at the end of each of their verses. The song itself is dope too with one of their more instantly appealing productions to the casual listener and some memorable lines by both to match. Now I wanna revisit this on last year’s Ridin Waves and cruise under the Chicago nightlights too.
In further exciting news, theWHOevers announce their upcoming double project, Black & White / Born To Use Mics, set up as a parallel to OutKast’s famous Speakerboxxx / The Love Below. Their fresh rap and melodic singing styles can pull that off. Lookin’ forward to it.
theWHOevers celebrate the release of a so fresh so clean new website — thewhoevers.com — with a brand new tune for your chill vibes playlist: “NYNM”. Both J. Arthur & DotKom do their thing with the verses and even share some local love throughout (I am now instantly craving some Maxwell’s hot dogs.) Maybe also because it’s 2pm and I haven’t eaten lunch yet.
Anyway, the beat also rides smoothly with the outro standing out and inspiring a repeat listen. J. Arthur put another nice one together there. Enjoy and find out more about “NYNM” below, accompanied by more amazing photo edits/artwork from @KnowPassion up top.
ICYMI: theWHOevers “BOUNCE” [Music Video] | J. Arthur f/ DotKom “What’s It Gonna Be?”
With a song titled “BOUNCE”, and theWHOevers using numerous ways to include the word, it’s only natural that they get some dope cars bouncing up and down for the video. Fresh visuals for a solid tune that has memorable one-liners from J. Arthur, DotKom, and guest emcee JustWise respectively. Directed by George Sol.
