#GWHHRECAP: AKIRA Supersonic Boom Fashion Show [Photos]

Our photographer Stan Perry documented some killer looks Sunday night at the sold out Supersonic Boom F/W 2013 AKIRA Runway Show featuring hair & makeup by Mario Tricoci. The show depicted both retro prints & color schemes and well-tailed craftsmanship in pieces consisting of leathers, chains, furs…in addition, a few eye catching heels from the collab between Kristin Cavallari & Chinese Laundry. A number of sponsors supported the show with goodies as event proceeds went toward the YWCA Metropolitan Chicago supporting the empowerment of women and diversity. Brickheadz entertained at the pre-show; following the show was an after-party and after, after-party filled with many of Chicago’s influential industry folks in the fashion and entertainment scenes.

Browse our photos on Pinterest (there are many more!) and take a journey through our photographer’s lense of the captivating evening of not only the beautiful models and fresh looks, but also the behind the scenes experience backstage and at the afterparty. Enjoy!

I just fell out of my chair when I saw this shoe.  The third shoe to come out of the greatlest love story ever, Derrick Rose and Adidas.  So much personal detail and personal special attention has been put into the shoe.  Good both on and off the court, the shoe features an oversized tongue emblazoned with his familty tree and paying homage to the (notorious) Englewood neighborhood, where he grew up.  Hopefully, residents of the current neighborhood can see this symbol that there is a way out of crime that has recently cause the death of many, including a murder with fingers pointing to Chief Keef.

The shoe features a brand new sillouette with synthetic and nubuck leather.  Expected to release on October 4th, the shoe will be priced at $160.  The initial release will feature black/white/red or grey/black/red color combos.  Seven more colors will be released closer to Christmas season.

What color are you going to get?

Solange Impresses at The FADER Fort (GWHH @ SXSW ’13)

Solange brought great energetic vibes to the FADER Fort stage at SXSW last week. What’s cool about Solange is that her music has this revamped for modern times 80’s pop and 90’s R&B inspired sound from her beats to lyrics (a little David Byrne sounding). And her attire, wearing a Pencey Spring 2013 suit jacket and dress pant (which was a collaboration with artist DJ Mia Moretti) was an ideal fit that paired well with the vibe of her music.

Here’s my personal favorite song of hers, “Losing You”. It’s the song that rebranded her into the indie industry – creating a more authentic place for herself and her music choice.

Plus, The FADER Fort always has a great stage and lighting and that adds to the concert experience. Their own lighting designer caught our compliment on Instagram! We’ll have our own original video of Solange (and more artists) from FADER Fort at SXSW — stay tuned!

TIBS ED. NOTE: We also got a shoutout from Solange herself! Jodeci was backstage and talked with her after the set. Solange shouted Jodeci and her friends on Twitter, showing love back to her fans. Gotta love her humble and giving spirit as well!

As I stared down at my feet, I noticed all of the pet owners in my lift were tightening their leashes away from my shoes. Hm…

Sgt. Tibs and I are in a bit of a debate between spiked heels for guys and girls.  Cute on girls, but questionable for guys.  Perhaps its been overdone in the recent few years, but I found a pair of kicks that could change your mind.

Thoughts on this trend? Is it over?  Is it still as hard edge.

Last night was Chicago’s forth FNO.  Originally started four years ago to boost consumer economic confidence, many of the Michigan Avenue stores opened their doors for freebies, cocktails, food, and prizes.

I met up with Heather after work.  When she said she was wearing a high low top with white shorts, she wasn’t kidding!  I loved it. She happened to stumble across her outfit in Akira while looking for a maxi dress and discovered the amazing top.  The whole night, I was chasing after her in that stunning backless number with dramatic tail.  I wore a polka dotted ruffled wrap dress from Topshop with a vintage Prada parrot belt.  The weather was perfect and kicked off the evening at Sable.

Stop number one was Haberdash.  A local Chicago boutique filled with tons of dapper men’s pieces.  Ladies, if you need to pick up an attractive (and successful) male date, I suggest you pretend to buy your brother a wallet and just browse the store checking out the um… merchandise. Big props to their staff that was so friendly and personable.  The in house barber even offered to shave our legs and trim our eyebrows… but we politely declined.  The team that works there is so fun.

Next stop was Sak’s Fifth and Zara.  Sak’s hooked our friend Danielle up with a free make over by Chanel.  The stylist gave her the cat eye / winged tipped eye.   Zara had champaigne flowing.   Tables after tables of champaigne glasses with seemingly limitless amounts of bubbly.  I bumped into this fabulous couple completely decked out in white and had to get a quick pic.  Was it the incredible black highlight, daring crusted jewel headband, or the all white pair… you decide!

After spotting a pregnant woman snacking on a breadstick, Heather, Danielle, and I later figured out that the center pieces were actually edible.  Always trust the pregnant women.

I copped some killer flats with cap toe studs for only $50!  And last but not least, Matt Rolanwas spinning killer disco vibe beats all night long at the event.  Gotta check him out at Paris Club tonight.

The night was already flying away so we booked it over to Macy’s. I got a free facial from Origins, Heather got some killer smokey eyes, compliments of Mac Cosmetics.

the finished product!  Danielle, me, and Heather

Cat eyes, no make up, and smokey eyes… Chanel, Origins, and Mac Cosmetics, respecitively

Final FNO stop of the night was the 900 North Michigan. Sipping on cocktails, free massages, manicures, and a Beauty Bazaar that could keep up entertained for days, these were all things that we were not able to enjoy because were so fashionably late.  We know where we will be starting next year.

my dates vamping it up!

Our final stops of the night was the Rooftop at the Wit.  Great music on a rooftop over looking the river made me realize how much I love this city.

…and then we made a couple more friends in the lift.
