Nicki was all over the place on SNL — her musical performances ranged three songs (“Bed of Lies” with Skylar Grey and a blend of “Over” and “All Things Go”), she played Beyonce in a skit, appeared on the Weekend Update as Kim Kardashian, appeared in another skit… aaaand showed a lot of skin in the process. Was she the host, or James Franco?
Whatever the case, it was surely entertaining and if you missed it tonight, peruse the videos below.
On tap for Saturday Night Live this week: host James Franco and musical guest Nicki Minaj.
The match seems like a seamless one as you can see from their silly SNL promo videos below (and remember Dave Skylark at the VMAs?). Perhaps Nicki will even guest star in a sketch?
What she’s expected to perform, however, is “Bed of Lies” with Skylar Grey (you should know by now, but I’m always thrilled when Skylar’s collabs get the big mainstream push!) and a TBD song off The Pinkprint, which conveniently drops right around the corner on December 15th.
ICYMI: Nicki Minaj “All Things Go” (prod. Boi-1da & Vinylz)
Last year, Seth Rogen & James Franco had the world rolling on the floor laughing (funny seeing that spelled out, huh?) with their “Bound 2” parody that instantly went viral and was enjoyed by Kanye himself. So much so that Kanye also called Seth & Franco about performing the parody at the KimYe wedding. Curious to know how that phone call went? Seth and Franco reveal those details and more in this hilarious behind the scenes interview below.
Sidebar: The Vogue parody above is also great.
Here’s the funniest thing you’ll see all day.
Seth Rogen & James Franco, longtime buddy actor/comedians, are also hosting this year’s VMAs and for some creative promo, they stage the fictitious talk show: Dave Skylark’s Very Special VMA Special. Franco plays a deliberately dumb and inappropriate talk show host with Seth Rogen as the head producer directing things from the control room.
Among Skylark’s guests: Jason Derulo, Iggy Azalea, and Nicki Minaj who all appear and have to put up with Skylark’s ridiculous questions. Franco, as you’d assume, pulls all of them off perfectly with each segment with the artist getting exceedingly awkward and confrontational. There are numerous, hilarious highlights in all of the segments with Ben Schwartz also appearing as each artist’s publicist. Love the premise, love the execution so put aside 20 minutes, enjoy a late lunch, and watch above.
Look out for the text descriptions that are added in each segment. They’re all flawless. Example:
Also: easily one of my favorite questions.
“It was honestly so hard not to bust out laughing at this question, great job @sethrogen & @jamesfrancotv”
Says James Franco:
Kim loved the video, and we didn’t hear back from Kanye, so we kind of felt like ‘he’s not bashing us, but he probably hates it but he’s not going to say anything.’ But then two weeks ago, we got a call from Kanye. Seth and I were on the phone. We thought he was just going to let us have it. But he loved it! And I’m pretty sure I can say it now because I’m pretty sure it’s not going to happen: he wanted us to perform it live the night before his wedding at Versailles. It would have been awesome for about 20 seconds, but then there would be Seth with his shirt off in front all the Kardashians.
Hah! I’m sorry, I couldn’t help but pass this tidbit along because it made me chuckle when James Franco said this at some point during his visit to The View. In case you want to relive the glory that is “Bound 3”, press play below.
