Ariana Grande Tributes Whitney Houston

Singer Ariana Grande took the White House by storm last night covering Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” for an audience including Jill Scott, Janelle Monae, Ms. Aretha Franklin, & of course, President Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama. Though a difficult song, Ms. Grande proved that she can take on virtually anything with her stunning rendition of the song.

Watch the beginning to see her cover “I Have Nothing”:

Afterwards, she also sang one of her very own tracks entitled “Tattooed Heart” ending the show with an energized duet with the legendary Patti Labelle, Jill Scott, Janelle Monae, Melissa Etheridge, & Tessanne Chin covering Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary”

A stage of powerhouse voices indeed. The “Women Of Soul: In Performance at the White House” airs on PBS on April 7.

The Roots Picnic Lineup

This year’s annual Roots Picnic is another event to try and get to. The 7th version of the fest features a jam-packed lineup revealed today, headlined by Snoop Dogg, who will be performing his myriad classics with the backing of The Legendary Roots Crew. I’d also be excited to see singers Janelle Monae and Jhene Aiko and a variety of rappers on the rise in Action Bronson and A$AP Ferg, and DJ sets like AraabMUZIK and Just Blaze. If you’re looking for a weekend to go to Philly, here’s your pick. Video of the announcement below:

Kanye headlining Bonnaroo

The full lineup is above and you’ll keep locating one name after the next — one artist you’ll want to see after another. Kanye West is the main hip hop headliner with many other notables including Frank Ocean, Wiz Khalifa, Lauryn Hill, Ice Cube, Chance The Rapper, and I can go on. Who are you most excited to see at Bonnaroo?

Pharrell headlining NBA All-Star Game

Pharrell (and hopefully his hat too) is going nowhere!

Official announcements say today that Pharrell will headline the performances at the NBA All-Star Game on February 16th. Also performing will be Janelle Monae, Gary Clark Jr., Earth, Wind, & Fire, and New Orleans natives Trombone Shorty with his band Orleans Avenue. And oh yeah, Kendrick Lamar will perform on NBA All-Star Saturday Night with the premiere spot before the main event: Slam Dunk Contest. More reason for us NBA-loving hip hop fans to tune in!
