The POTUS Summer Playlist

This is just pretty neat.

We all know President Obama has a respect for hip hop and soul music and the latter is seen even more clearly today after the POTUS links up with Spotify to deliver two 20-song playlists. There’s a lot of nods to legends of the past like Al Green, Nina Simone, and Ray Charles amongst many others.

You’ll also see some Beyonce & Frank Ocean, John Legend & Andre 3000 (forgot about this one!), and Justin Timberlake, who was excited about the shoutout and that’s how I saw this in the first place. Groove along with the prez this weekend below.

As for the POTUS’ whereabouts today…

Chill Friday with the MVP &amp, POTUS.

Kanye, McCartney, JT + more for SNL 40

SNL is celebrating 40 years on the air this month and it’s going all out for a reunion special with old cast mates and musical guests. Among the latter: Kanye West, Paul McCartney, and Justin Timberlake. The latter may not only perform musically but comedically too and the former 2 would probably perform “Only One”, wouldn’t you think?

Full guest list below and in the video above with “SNL 40” ironically airing on Sunday, February 15th.

Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, Paul McCartney, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Tom Hanks, Bill Murray, Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell, Robert De Niro, Adam Sandler, Jerry Seinfield, Mike Myers, Tina Fey, Jack Nicholson, Amy Poehler, Peyton Manning, Betty White, Maya Rudolph, Dana Carvey, Steve Martin, Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and more!

Nicki Minaj f/ Skylar Grey on Fallon

Nicki Minaj was not only the musical guest on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, but she also sat down for a brief sit-down with the host. My biggest takeaway was that she used to be a waitress at Red Lobster. Probably common knowledge to the Barbz, but that’s not me, haha.

The video above then contains her performance of “Bed of Lies” with Skylar Grey and The Roots. Nicki really let Skylar have the shine tonight and on this single in general. In fact, for all the extra parts that Skylar sings, it feels more and more like a Skylar Grey song featuring Nicki Minaj (no shade). I enjoy Skylar’s work, whether as a guest or solo, and apparently so does Russell Crowe (another takeaway from the interview). But Jimmy didn’t hear of her until recently — we gotta get ’em in check.

BONUS: Justin Timberlake also appeared on the show, in a sketch.
