14 tracks, just 1 feature on The Weeknd’s hotly anticipated album dropping at the end of the month. It’s Lana Del Rey so I’m already lookin’ forward to how their vocals will mesh (wonderfully, I’m assuming.) Take a gander below and stay tuned today for my thoughts on Weeknd at Lolla here in Chicago!
UPDATE: Straight from The Weeknd himself, Ed Sheeran and Labrinth are also featured.
Kanye West is, naturally, a part of a powerful trio on the cover of Billboard’s annual Power 100 issue, dedicated to the most profitable and, well, powerful people in the music industry. Lucian Grainge, the Chairman/CEO of Universal Music Group, and one of ‘Ye’s favorite artists Lana Del Rey join him on the cover.
The execs who rule music now? Just follow the money, where new No. 1 Lucian Grainge keeps grabbing market share (while upending every business model), 31 first-timers break into the list and innovation — not fear — is now the force propelling these players forward.
Meanwhile, Kanye cryptically tweeted a link to yeezy.supply earlier today and it indicates a countdown culminating on February 12th — the reported release date, revealed yesterday, of his adidas collection. adidas also released a sign up for instant news to the collection over at adidas.com/us/kanye.
So yeah, it’s going to be a busy week for Mr. West starting on Sunday at the Grammys.
araabMUZIK is back (yes!) with a new output off For Professional Use Only 2 and a “Summertime” single to boot. This one adds araab’s usual electro stylings to chopped vocals of Lana Del Rey‘s rather melancholy “Summertime Sadness”. The end result is a unique mix of her oft-setting, reflective vocals with a higher tempo than the original. I’m vibing with it and will definitely work it into my work mode/cruising-with-the-windows-down playlist.
Lana “All Day” Del Rey?! If she was a football player, she’d take Adrian Peterson’s nickname. But she’s not. She’s a singer with a new album on the way, Ultraviolence, which can be streamed in full below and the new video for “Shades of Cool” above.
One more melancholy preview off the upcoming album ‘Ultraviolence’, Lana Del Rey may appeal to the Brooklynites with the title of this one “Brooklyn Baby”. This one has a pleasant hypnotic feel to it as it goes along so let it play all the way through. Album drops June 17th.
