Mano ‘BrrLeg EP’

Treated Crew’s hit making producer Mano connects with Closed Sessions to produce the “BrrLeg EP” that features the 20/3 leader’s production over some Gucci Mane classics.

The Weeknd “The Hills”

All-new Weeknd, as first premiered a couple months ago at SXSW, and now for the first time heard in full CDQ through the new music video above.

“The Hills” tells a story of Weeknd trying to get to his girl, but with the dark twists you would expect. This feels fresh from him because of the low voice on the verses and the cadence of the chorus — both unusual at the very least. I especially rocked with the melody on the hook and the story that plays out in both the song and visuals is pretty entertaining, and dark (did I mention dark?)

To top it off, Chicago’s own Mano is one of the producers of the record, along with Illangelo, and they add some trap elements to Weeknd’s usual backdrop. A must-see above as Weeknd rides into summer after his highest-charting single to date.

The Weeknd premieres new song at SXSW

The Weeknd debuted some new music last night in Austin and it has a Chicago tie to it too… Mano produces. Here is video and the snippet. Needless to say, lookin’ forward to the studio release.

Plus, as you see above, The Weeknd was also on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night performing his top 10 single “Earned It”. ICYMI…

Holt “Nightcall” (Kavinsky Cover)

On the heels of last week’s announcement and signing to G.O.O.D. Music, Chicago’s Holt (aka Hollywood Holt) drops his first release and in the process reveals a new sound and direction. Still connecting with Mano on the production, the two concoct a new cover of Kavinsky’s “Nightcall” — a cult favorite from the cult Gosling movie Drive. The original is one of my favorites too so hearing a fresh version of it from these guys is definitely welcomed.

The pace is a fair amount slower and for the video, Holt had to provide some cinematic visuals to match. The colors stand out and the story plays out in an equally slow pace so watch above and see if you vibe with it. Holt and Chelsea Lombardo direct and Emily Morse contributes on the vocals.

Last Night Was Tight

Sometimes you go to a show and its pretty laid back, not real high energy but you stick around have a few drinks or whatever. But then there are shows where you toss em back, break a sweat, jump around, and sing the words to every song… last night was the latter. Casey Veggies brought out Rockie Fresh, Rae Sremmurd brought out a couple bottles and a blunt, and Mano and Holt set the tone all night. Last night was tight.
