Justin Bieber is .. Racist?!

As we all know, Justin Bieber has been no stranger to Black people and Urban/Black music. With Usher as his mentor, collaborations with everyone from Mariah Carey to Future to R. Kelly to Chance the Rapper to Lil’ Wayne… the list goes on & on.

Recently, this footage leaked of a younger Bieber making a racist joke regarding Black people and chainsaws..

Similarly, today a new video has leaked of 14-year old Bieber singing a racially charged remix version of his song “One Less Lonely Girl” except this time, “Girl” has been replaced with “nigger.”

In response to the videos surfacing, Bieber has since issued an apology regarding the matter.

As a kid, I didn’t understand the power of certain words and how they can hurt. I thought it was OK to repeat hurtful words and jokes but didn’t realize at the time that it wasn’t funny and that in fact my actions were continuing the ignorance. Thanks to friends and family, I learned from my mistakes and grew up and apologized for those wrongs. Now that these mistakes from the past have become public, I need to apologize again to all those I have offended. I’m very sorry. I take my friendships with people of all cultures very seriously, and I apologize for offending or hurting anyone with my childish and inexcusable mistake. I was a kid then, and I am a man now who knows my responsibility to the world and to not make that mistake again. Ignorance has no place in our society, and I hope the sharing of my faults can prevent others from making the same mistake in the future. I thought long and hard about what I wanted to say, but telling the truth is always what’s right. Five years ago I made a reckless and immature mistake, and I’m grateful to those close to me who helped me learn those lessons as a young man. Once again … I’m sorry.”

So the question at hand is do we prosecute Bieber for his extremely unacceptable behavior he displayed at a young age or do we forgive him and accept him as the man he is today? Though I don’t condone the use of racial slurs, especially ones pertaining to the African-American community, I do believe that people can change. Do I believe Bieber is a racist? Not at all. We have all said things that we probably regret or will regret at one time or another. It doesn’t excuse it, but it does show that none of us are angels. The only difference between the common person & Mr. Bieber is that he’s famous; We’re not.

He’s issued a seemingly genuine apology and from there, I think we should all move on from the topic.

And to Justin… be mindful of what you say when the cameras are rolling.

Mariah Carey “Me. I Am Mariah”

Mariah Carey, who has been ducking & dodging questions regarding her next album for weeks, has finally announced the title of her upcoming project, which is due promptly May 27 & available for Pre-Order on iTunes NOW. Featuring collaborations from her twins Monroe & Moroccan, R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige, Fabolous, Miguel, Wale & Nas, the album is called…

Me. I Am Mariah…. The Elusive Chanteuse

Above is the standard edition cover while below is the deluxe edition cover:

Though the date has been pushed back, at least finally the diva has announced a title, a cover & a date that is set in stone.

The title “Me. I Am Mariah” derives from a drawing she made during a childhood days that shared the same title. This “personal treasure” was drawn when she was 3 & was included as the album title for its “creative visualization of how [she] saw [her]self with the purity of a child’s heart” says Mariah.

“This album is a reflection of the peaks & valleys that have made me who I am today.”

With “Chanteuse” meaning “A female of popular songs” it makes the extended title of the album “The Elusive Chanteuse” that much more appropriate. Already in iTunes top 10 based solely off of Pre-Ordering, it will be interesting to see what Mariah releases as a single to revitalize interest in the album after the lackluster performance of “You’re Mine (Eternal).”

Amidst a slew of doubts & speculation, Mariah is back to remind everyone who the real Diva is. Let’s hope she delivers her best work since her 2005 critically & commercially acclaimed comeback The Emancipation of Mimi.

Check out the track listing below & pre-order the album NOW!

Mariah Carey Lands Billboard Cover

There was a point in time where I didn’t believe Mariah Carey’s upcoming 14th album was coming out. I labeled this album a myth because all Carey was supplying fans with was false hope. With several delays and single mishaps, Carey had me worried she was competing for Ashanti’s record, which is the most postponed album of all time. But, as of today full hope has been restored, as Carey has exclusively revealed to Billboard she will be taking the surprise approach with the release of the album.

Mariah herself will reveal her album’s title, artwork, track listing, and music all at once via a soon-to-be-announced digital partner. Carey herself explains why she will be taking the ‘Beyoncé’ surprise route.

“I have to be the one that announces this, especially the title,” Carey says, noting that the album takes its name from a “personal possession of mine that’s part of an entity that I’ve had almost all my life.”

Mariah is also aware of the recent string of single releases that failed to compete with her previous hits.

“You would think I would be all about the singles-driven situation, and I am in a way, but with this particular album I want my fans to hear it as a body of work,” she says. “This is my life since we last left off. Just picture a dot dot dot, and then here’s the album.”

So what can fans expect to hear? Billboard says big ballads and uptempo bangers. Mariah Carey’s full cover story with Billboard will be posted this coming Monday.

I don’t think the word excited correctly explains how I am feeling, because it’s beyond that. Knowing Carey and what she is capable of, this body of work for this project will be nothing short of amazing. The currently untitled album will be released May 6 (or before – who knows). Carey will have productions from Jermaine Dupri, Rodney Jerkins, Hit – Boy, Big Jim Wright, and Mike Will Made It, plus features from Wale, Nas, and a surprise guest she will not reveal.
