Talib Kweli ‘Fuck The Money’ (Free Album)

If pursuit of the money is your only goal, then you lose control then you lose your soul.

– Talib Kweli

I don’t think I need to write anything other than “Talib Kweli” to readers of this site to click and download, but definitely if I add “Free Album” next to it too.

Or perhaps Fuck The Money which is the name of said free album. I vibe with the attitude here, and the lyric that embodies the album on the title track below.

The album has a familiar set of guest names like Miguel and Chicago’s Patrick Stump on the same track, Ab-Soul, and even Kaytranada producing a track. You can peep the full tracklist below and head over to KweliClub.com for the FREE download. It’s a quick sign-up, and the email will come through shortly after, so make that move now and add this to quite the week of awesome new albums/projects. Miguel ‘Crazy Enough’ (Mini-Doc)

This is a treat for Miguel fans.

8 years ago in 2007, he linked up with a company called Yours, Truly to do a follow-around documentary, chronicling the singer/songwriter’s come-up in his native Los Angeles. Today, he sat down with the same crew to reflect on what he said back in 07.

For most watching for instance, you may not have known that Miguel’s parents divorced when he was growing up and he became the man of the house. His words back then and his reflection of that today are both pretty profound. And wow, does he look younger back then or what?!

By the end though, it all comes back to the namesake of the mini-doc — Miguel taking his father’s advice to do whatever he wanted and being ‘crazy enough’ to do it. Watch above and also treat yourself to the young Miguel singing some a capellas.

Miguel “Coffee” on Jimmy Kimmel & GMA

I’ve written how “Coffee” is one of my go-to R&B singles right now every time I get the chance and it always jumps another level live with Miguel’s studio vocals on display in front of an electric band.

He brought that energy for new performances of the single on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Good Morning America, while also even doing a skit for JKL where he brought out coffee to a fan at a coffee shop. Ha! Perfect.

Wildheart out today!

Miguel ‘Wildheart’ (Album Stream)

NPR is at it again today, with the Vince Staples stream and now the Miguel stream ahead of June 30th schedule.

I was particularly looking forward to Miguel’s new album, Wildheart, and after one spin already it does not disappoint. I’ve always loved how Miguel incorporates hard, electric guitars in his sound and that’s pretty heavy throughout the album. Sure enough, it’s well-executed too.

Thankfully for me, I enjoyed a lot of the non-previewed records like “A beautiful exit”, “what’s normal anyway”, and “leaves”, especially being in California right now for the last one. In fact, this is a great sound for the summer featuring some bedtime cuts mixed in with some sunny, windows-down jams. Lenny Kravitz and Kurupt are the only features so Miguel carries this the whole way. And no doubt this will be in heavy rotation beyond today/through the entire summer.
