Mikkey Halsted “Web We Weave”

Mikkey Halsted and Da Internz?!

I’m in on that combo, with scratches by DJ ALO matching the raw rap aesthetic. Mikkey’s been supporting a lot of the young cats comin’ out the Chi but is inspired to drop a new project, Bulletproof Dreams, in the wake of Ferguson, Eric Garner, and many of these issues coming to the forefront. Get a sense of this direction with “Web We Weave” below.

Mikkey Halsted “What Love Is” f/ Tia London (prod. Traxster)

Valentine’s Day is the appropriate release date for this Chicago hip hop and R&B collab as Mikkey Halsted links once again with familiar collaborators Tia London on the chorus and Traxster behind the boards. The slow melody is perfect as Halsted & Tia portray the male/female attempts at trying to figure out what love is. I dig the depth on this one (the chorus alone is far from bubblegum cliche) and will keep coming back for that and the nostalgic vibe the production provides too. Naturally, “What Love Is” is indeed a great add of more sure to come today.

Mikkey Halsted “Salmon Crouquettes” (prod. No I.D.)

Mikkey Halsted’s Bulletproof Dreams is set to impact on March 4th, and here’s his new preview of the album “Salmon Crouquettes”, which boasts a raw production from No I.D. Mikk spits three nice verses, with the second being my favorite one. Also a nod to No I.D. for the Talib Kweli “lyrics sticks to your ribs” sample on the hook. Give this one a listen and an add to your rotation today.
