Nikki Jean “Rivers”

Rivers runnin’ down my face..

Nikki Jean’s hook will surely get stuck in your head after just one listen to her new track and collaboration with the hometown’s Social Experiment collective. Donnie Trumpet, namely, provides the horns and Nikki’s now consistent producer, Double-0 (where’s my Kidz In The Hall fans at??), provides the catchy overall production. To bring it complete, Nikki sounds wonderful with the vocals throughout, as Hypetrak says is sung with a “TC Helicon voice live touch.” Needless to say, this new preview off the upcoming Champagne Water EP is a nice add to your rotation.

ICYMI: Nikki Jean f/ Ab-Soul “Champagne Water” | Lupe Fiasco f/ Nikki Jean “Haile Selassie”

Lupe Fiasco “Haile Selassie” f/ Nikki Jean

UPDATE: The Cool’s holy trinity unite! The perfect way to say it, via Nikki Jean herself, as she provides the hook for Lupe’s new set of thought-provoking rhymes that reflect on history and the world. Rounding it out is Soundtrakk with the production for the 2 of 2 gems on Lost In The Atlantic.

10.23: In case you were sleeping last night (literally), Lupe Fiasco tweeted out the new single art for “Haile Selassie”, which he says will drop tomorrow (Friday) and will feature a singer that fans have been clamoring for more for since The CoolNikki Jean. Lu & Nikki are also set to reunite over the work of a familiar production partner in Soundtrakk. Me presumes that this is a part of the Lost In The Atlantic project, and not the Tetsuo & Youth album dropping January 20th.

Get a head start on the song’s meaning by researching who and what Haile Selassie is.

Also, ICYMI: “Lilies”

Aaaand because it’s #TBT:

Nikki Jean f/ Ab-Soul “Champagne Water”

NEW Nikki Jean is always a pleasant add to the rotation and for her new title track to her forthcoming EP, she gets an assist from a familiar recent collaborator: TDE’s Ab-Soul. The sound, produced by Nikki herself and Double-0, plays out a little unusually if you’re familiar with their recent work, but the twist is fresh and a great compliment for Ab-Soul’s guest verse. Listen below and expect more from the EP before 2014 is out.

Nikki Jean “Summertime Girl”

Nikki Jean is back at it for her upcoming EP, due out later this Fall after her guest spot on Ab-Soul’s album alongside Lupe Fiasco. Consider “Summertime Girl” a soothing summer addition to the project as Double-0 sets the tone with a chill, yet not exactly upbeat production that you may expect from a “summer single”. That’s not the aim here with a song titled “Summertime Girl”. You’ll see as you follow the story, with my favorite part sonically coming in the latter third of the track. As such, stay tuned all the way through, for more previews of the EP this summer, and her appearance(s) on the upcoming Lupe Fiasco album, Tetsuo & Youth.

Ab-Soul ‘These Days’ [Album Stream]

TDE fans are stoked with today’s release of the long-awaited debut album from Ab-SoulThese Days boasts features from his TDE teammates Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, and SZA, along with Lupe Fiasco & Nikki Jean, Rick Ross, Jhene Aiko, Action Bronson, Danny Brown, upcoming Chicago band The O’My’s, and more. If you have been up on every preview and want the full album stream, proceed below. I haven’t dived into it just yet but did skip right ahead to the Kendrick Lamar Interlude that contrasts a chill, jazzy production that wonderfully goes solo at the end with K. Dot as intense as ever. The album can be copped now.
