Drake ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’

Some updates in the fallout of last night’s surprise release:

For one, Tyga responded to Drake’s (excellent) diss on “6PM in New York” with some since deleted tweets.

Moving on, Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late is projected for a whopping 500K sold after last night’s stellar drop. Whow! Surprise releases FTW. You think Birdman got the message? Free agent Drizzy comin’ up…? We shall see…

First impressions: 2, 3, 4, 9, 12, 14, 15, 17 all inspired run backs immediately. That’s a higher than average percentage people. Looking forward to digesting this more as a whole this weekend for some further thoughts.

Cool story bro: I lit up at the sample of Henry Krinkle’s “Stay” because that’s a great tune to begin with but because Mickey Factz’ “Stay” has been a rotation mainstay (no pun intended) since December. PND and Drake is way different and I like it a lot, but I gotta go with Mickey’s use of the sample more. Speaks to the latter.

02.12.15: It’s great when rumors come true. That was the case today as Drake does indeed drop a surprise new mixtape, not album, on iTunes (it costs money though.) Back with more commentary and an update, but all you need is below.

PND is back with some new music and a surprise drop of a 4-song FreEP #PNDCOLOURS.

As you can see from the cover art, you can connect the EP title. You can also see features from Travi$ Scott & Ca$h Out, both artists having dollar signs in their names. Maybe it’s a strong indicator that they’re money… find out for yourself below.

(“Girl From Oakland” my early favorite. This line and entire song “Jus Know”, too.)

Drake — Download 3 new tracks

Fresh off OVOSound with a surprise release is Drake with not one, not two, but three new tracks. Including last week’s leak of “How About Now” — the official, final version. Indulge and download below!

As you can see from the above credits, the producers are some familiar names along with Syk Sense (who co-produces the excellent, frenetic “6 God” beat with Boi-1da) and Jordan Evans (the Jodeci “My Heart Belongs To You” sampled “How Bout You”). These are the 2 of the 3 tracks I got as a *Tibs Fav. — “6 God” bangs, debuts a new delivery from Drizzy, and gets better as it goes along. First impression listen is a good one, no doubt. Plus, who is he sub-dissing with that chuckle-inducing Usher line? Tyga?

“How Bout You” has been steady in my playlist since its leak last weekend. The new, final version above bangs a little more clearly in the headphones so definitely put forth the effort to update your iTunes.

Finally, “Heat of the Moment” is the one straight R&B record of the trio and has all the makings to grow on me with more listens. With 40 behind the boards, and PARTYNEXTDOOR providing additional background vocals, it feels familiar but in a fresh way.

There’s my $0.02 — let’s hear your’s! Do the quick sign-up and drop a comment.

PARTYNEXTDOOR brings out Drake in Montreal

PND’s embarking on his first headlining tour and last night at the tour’s first stop north of the border in Montreal, he was accompanied by his OVO boss Drake to make the night even more powerful for the intimate crowd. The two performed “Recognize”, naturally, as you can see through the variety of fan video below.

UPDATE: Yesterday’s hotly talked about “How About Now” is currently not available. It’s said to be unfinished and the leak has been squashed. Hopefully you were on it while it was up!
