Another new MJB track is out for The London Sessions after yesterday’s “Whole Damn Year”. This is another one longtime fans should enjoy as Mary’s voice powerfully resonates over the record and tells an emotional tale, written by Sam Smith. It’s hard not to at least appreciate this one as The London Sessions is now 3 for 3 heading toward its December 2 release.
I’m not well-versed in the sure numerous covers of Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me”, but I did catch wind of FKA Twigs‘ cover live with BBC 1 Xtra this week. Whoo! Love the setup and lighting that became the backdrop for the singer’s darker rendition of “Stay With Me”. She especially put her signature twist on the end of the song that you’re undoubtedly familiar with on her recently released LP1 album. There’s a handful of tracks that I love on the album and this one would be right up there with it and a nice fit sonically too. Press play above and peep that LP1 if you haven’t already.
Once again, you may have seen a lack of updates on the site the past couple of days. We were undergoing some site updates even though we were still live and running. Now that we’re back live and running I got your roundup of Tuesday’s new content right here!
I actually thought it would be natural to start with the albums that were released today. I like all 3 of these artists and the albums of which I’ve previewed already — Jhene AikoSouled Out, LecraeAnomaly, and BanksGoddess are all in stores now! Be sure to listen and support, and then scroll below for more new videos, songs, and Monday’s Roundup as well!

I thought it appropriate to start with Pharrell’s appearance on CNN, talking about the Ferguson situation a few weeks past now. He thinks President Obama should come to Ferguson — do you agree? Sound off here, then see some more big names below: Alicia Keys, Nicki Minaj, Common, Sam Smith & A$AP Rocky, and more.
The 2014 VMAs — standing this year for the 2014 Video Minaj Awards — just concluded with a flurry of big-name performances in the books.
Nicki Minaj seemingly appeared in all of them. Ok, I’m exaggerating a little bit, but Nicki opened the show with Ariana Grande & Jessie J and performed with Usher too. Sam Smith slowed things down with his performance of the top 5 hit, “Stay With Me” (I think of John Legend’s song of nearly the same name when I hear this though, no shade.) Common led a moment of silence for #Ferguson — this is as great as it sounds on paper. Iggy Azalea & Rita Ora performed their Kill Bill-inspired “Black Widow”…
BUT it was Beyonce that stole the show away from Nicki and the others, making the VMAs her own. Her show-ending performance featured a snippeted version of every song from her self-titled album and about 47 heartwarming moments with Jay & Blue Ivy watching on. Fast forward all the way down for those. She was phenomenal, and her performance was phenomenal. Could the VMAs have closed out any more perfectly?
