Astonish “The Who Tape” [Mixtape]

Im particularly excited about this project considering I’ve been following Astonish since his AstonishinglyODD Project and now we get the follow up to that project. Astonish delivers his latest masterpiece and what I believe will be a project that turns heads with his “The Who Tape” project that boasts production by Pivot Gang’s Saba, Born Ready Productions, Slot-A, Ikon, among features from Navarro, John Walt, Lungz, and others. For those not familiar with Astonish, this new project is a reminder of why he’s one of the who’s who to listen to in Chicago Hip-Hop.

Slot-A ‘March to Shades & Flavors 2’

Chicago producer Slot-A is also one of my favorite remixers and today he releases his newest 3-track EP of those called March to Shades & Flavors 2. Just some more good tunes to hold ya over for the next project as this features a flip of some D’Angelo, Big Sean’s “IDFWU”, and my favorite: “Truffle Butter”. The beat of the original is really one of my favorites too but Slot-A puts a completely different, funky feel on that track and the rest below. Enjoy!

Slot-A ‘Shades & Flavors’

You can always count on Chicago producer/DJ Slot-A for some fresh takes of hip hop’s most recognizable songs. Here, he has the soundtrack to your autumn afternoon with Shades & Flavors boasting remixes of the likes of Lupe’s “Next To It”, 50 Cent’s “Get In My Car”, and even R&B flips like Mariah Carey’s “Thirsty” and Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing”. What I appreciate even more about this is how Slot actually creates cohesion between songs that are on other ends of the spectrum. Look again at the examples and scroll through the tracklist below.

One flip that hit a personal chord — one of my favorite John Legend songs “Save Room”, which will surely be lasting in the rotation for the rest of the season. Listen/DL below.
