Lil Wayne on ESPN First Take

Lil Wayne made it a trending topic all morning — his appearance once again on ESPN First Take that had many speculating about such actual appearance. Wayne talks softly and he may be construed as aloof, but it doesn’t seem that unusual to me. Maybe it’s because he predicted the Lakers are making the playoffs?

It was about the content of the whole segment for me though and Weezy talked about his beloved Packers losing Jordy Nelson yesterday to a torn ACL, how he became a Packers fan in the first place, his views on Tom Brady & Deflategate, and finally: a rave review of Straight Outta Compton. Straight Outta Compton sequel in the works

No surprise here, the people want more! (As evidenced by some impressive, record-setting opening week numbers.)

Daz Dillinger was quick to confirm to TMZ that a sequel to Straight Outta Compton is already in the works. The subjects at hand: 2Pac, Snoop, Dre, Suge Knight, and Death Row Records.

Daz adds that none of the Straight Outta Compton actors would reprise their roles (Dre would likely be played by his son, Curtis Young) and that Ice Cube gave the project his blessing, though he won’t be on as a producer either.

So I guess it’s really just another movie about the golden era of hip hop. The subjects: just as, if not more fascinating. So hopefully this comes to fruition. (And hopefully the actor who cameoed as 2Pac can actually act too. He got the looks down, for sure.)

Dr. Dre apologizes to “women I’ve hurt”

With old physical abuse allegations resurfacing around the release of Straight Outta Compton (and why they weren’t covered in the movie), the Doc addressed them head on in a new statement today to the New York Times.

“Twenty-five years ago I was a young man drinking too much and in over my head with no real structure in my life. However, none of this is an excuse for what I did. I’ve been married for 19 years and every day I’m working to be a better man for my family, seeking guidance along the way. I’m doing everything I can so I never resemble that man again. I apologize to the women I’ve hurt. I deeply regret what I did and know that it has forever impacted all of our lives.”

Apple issued a statement too:

“Dre has apologized for the mistakes he’s made in the past and he’s said that he’s not the same person that he was 25 years ago. We believe his sincerity and after working with him for a year and a half, we have every reason to believe that he has changed.”

This is a good, and assuredly genuine move from Dre, instead of ducking it or passive aggressively mentioning it. The stories from the women involved, namely Dee Barnes, were tough to read. Will we move on or continue to hold this over Dre’s head? I honestly can see both scenarios.

Jalen & Jacoby talk Straight Outta Compton

It’s been awhile without a dope pod to step to from Grantland’s Jalen & Jacoby. Hey, it’s the dog days of summer. No complaints here. Especially when they come back and give the lead to Straight Outta Compton.

The first 20 minutes above are dedicated to the N.W.A. biopic and throughout the entire entertaining convo, Jalen reveals he was actually at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit for the famed concert where N.W.A. was arrested by the police. Jalen confirms some of the reports that came out after the movie about some of the factual details of that night, and in general, just speaks on living that experience as a teenager in the late 80s. Great stuff, as always, from these two.

Ice Cube x O’Shea Jackson Jr. Interview

One of the many highlights of Straight Outta Compton was Ice Cube — his son, namely. I couldn’t get over how identical O’Shea Jackson Jr. was to Cube throughout the biopic. His performance delivered for more than just his natural, genetic looks too.

Up above, Noisey got father and son together to ask each other questions about son playing father and some favorite and even tough scenes to watch from the movie. The whole interview is a fascinating sit-down and I only wish it turned into a podcast. Enjoy.
